The Spike is the bomb in VALORANT. Each round, the attacking team carries the Spike and tries to plant it on one of the map's bomb sites; once planted, it counts down to detonation. The defending team wins by defusing it (or eliminating the attackers before the plant).
Because a planted Spike forces defenders to retake the site, "getting the Spike down" can win a round on the timer alone — central to attacking strategy and to many clutch situations. It is VALORANT's name for the bomb in Counter-Strike 2, the game this plant/defuse structure comes from.
