Dota 2
Dota 2 is Valve's 5v5 MOBA and the home of The International. Malaysia has a storied Dota history — Orange eSports' 3rd at TI3 (2013) remains a landmark Southeast Asian result.
What is Dota 2?
Dota 2 is Valve's free-to-play MOBA — two teams of five, Radiant vs Dire, race to destroy the enemy Ancient. Released in 2013 on PC via Steam, it is best known for The International (TI), Valve's annual world championship whose winner lifts the Aegis of Champions.
Competitive Dota 2 is drafted in Captain's Mode and built around a five-position system and objectives like Roshan.
The circuit since the DPC
Valve discontinued the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) after the 2023 season, handing the calendar to third-party organisers. The current ecosystem is built on independent leagues — ESL (ESL One, DreamLeague), PGL (Wallachia) and FISSURE / BetBoom — rather than a single unified Valve circuit, with The International remaining the pinnacle. Recent TI winners: Team Liquid (TI 2024) and Team Falcons (TI 2025).
Malaysia's storied Dota history
Malaysia is one of Southeast Asia's great Dota nations. The landmark result is Orange eSports finishing 3rd at The International 2013 — at the time the best-ever TI placement for a Southeast Asian team. That roster produced Malaysia's most famous player, Mushi (Chai Yee Fung), and led into the Team Malaysia → Fnatic Malaysian-core era of 2015–2017. MidOne (Yeik Nai Zheng) carried the flag later, reaching 4th at TI 2019 and becoming the first Southeast Asian to hit 8000 MMR.
