Position 1–5 system

Dota 2 teams are organised by a five-position system (Pos 1–5) that ranks players by resource priority: Pos 1–3 are the cores, Pos 4–5 the supports.

Position 1–5 system — definition

A Dota 2 team is built around a five-position system that ranks each player by how much farm (gold and experience) they get:

  • Position 1 — Hard Carry (most resources; the team's late-game damage)
  • Position 2 — Midlaner (solo mid; tempo and impact)
  • Position 3 — Offlaner (tanky initiator in the tough lane)
  • Position 4 — Soft Support (roaming playmaker)
  • Position 5 — Hard Support (least resources; protects the carry, buys utility)

Positions 1–3 are the "cores," 4–5 the "supports." It is the Dota equivalent of the role system other MOBAs use — comparable to how Mobile Legends splits its lanes between gold laner, mid, and roamer.
