Captain's Mode (CM) is the standard competitive draft format in Dota 2. Before the match, each team's captain alternately bans heroes (removing them for both sides) and picks the five heroes their team will play, following a fixed sequence.
Drafting well is a discipline in itself: captains target counters, deny power picks, and build a line-up that fits their five positions — so a game can be shaped before a single creep spawns.
