Gran Turismo
Gran Turismo is Polyphony Digital's PlayStation racing simulator. Its esport, the Gran Turismo World Series, runs Nations Cup and Manufacturers Cup — and Malaysia competes in the Asia region.
What is Gran Turismo?
Gran Turismo is the PlayStation racing simulator developed by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony. The current title is Gran Turismo 7 (2022), a console exclusive (PS4/PS5) — unusual in a discipline otherwise dominated by PC sims.
The Gran Turismo World Series
GT's flagship esport is the Gran Turismo World Series (GTWS), which the FIA sanctioned from 2018. It runs two formats: the Nations Cup (you race for your country) and the Manufacturers Cup (you race for a car brand). At the 2025 World Finals in Fukuoka, José Serrano (Spain) won the Nations Cup and Porsche took the Manufacturers Cup.
Gran Turismo in Malaysia
Malaysia competes in GTWS through the Asia region, and GT7 underpins the country's most prominent local sim series, the Toyota GR GT Cup Malaysia — whose Taj Izrin Aiman won the GR GT Cup Asia 2024 title.
