Telemetry
Telemetry is the recorded performance data from a lap — speed, throttle, brake, steering, g-forces and temperatures — that sim racers analyse to find time and compare against rivals.
Telemetry — definition
Telemetry is the recorded performance data from a lap — speed, throttle, brake, steering angle, g-forces, gear, and temperatures — logged so it can be studied afterwards. It turns "the car felt loose there" into something measurable.
In sim racing, drivers and coaches overlay two laps' telemetry to see exactly where time is gained or lost: braking a few metres too early, missing the apex, or getting on the throttle late. It is also how a car setup is validated — proving a change actually made the car faster, not just different.
