Hotlap
A hotlap is a maximum-effort single lap flat out for the fastest possible time. In time-trial mode, drivers chain hotlaps alone against the clock to qualify or set records.
Hotlap — definition
A hotlap is a maximum-effort single lap — pushing flat out for the fastest possible time, with everything (the racing line, braking points, throttle) executed perfectly. It contrasts with the more managed pace of a long race stint.
In time trial (or "hotlap") mode, a sim racer runs alone against the clock, chaining hotlaps to lower their personal best. Many sim racing ladders — including Gran Turismo and iRacing — use time-trial times to seed or qualify drivers, making the hotlap a core skill.
