What is Garena Free Fire?

Garena Free Fire is a mobile battle royale developed by 111dots Studio and published by Garena. A match drops up to 50 players onto an island; squads of up to four scavenge for weapons and survive a shrinking safe zone until only one squad remains. It became one of the most-downloaded mobile games in the world on the back of fast, mobile-first 10-minute matches.

Competitive Free Fire is played in two formats: the Battle Royale circuit (multiple squads per lobby across several maps) and Clash Squad, a tighter 4v4, best-of-7 mode built for head-to-head esports.

Free Fire in Malaysia

Malaysia is an active Free Fire nation with its own national league, the Free Fire Malaysia Championship (FFMC), run by Garena. The FFMC feeds Malaysian teams into the regional Southeast Asia circuit and ultimately the Free Fire World Series (FFWS). The 2026 Spring national title went to Team Vamos.

Note: while the original Free Fire was banned in India in 2022 (later relaunched as a separate "Free Fire India" build in 2025), the game has remained fully operational in Malaysia and the wider Southeast Asia region throughout.
